The hashtag #JusticeForChristianah emerged following the tragic murder of Idowu Christianah, a 300-level student from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). Christianah was kidnapped in August 2024 while on her way to the University of Lagos for industrial training.
After a ransom was paid by her family, communication ceased, and her body was later discovered buried in the home of her alleged friend and killer, Ayomide Adeleye, a student from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU). Adeleye has also been linked to the deaths of his ex-girlfriend and his sister in previous incidents(PM News Nigeria)(Legit.ng – Nigeria news.)(Sahara Reporters).
The discovery of her death has sparked outrage across Nigeria, with calls for justice flooding social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter). The hashtag has been trending as people demand the prosecution of Adeleye and question the role his family may have played in covering up his earlier crimes.
Public figures, including Afrobeats star Ayra Starr, have voiced their condemnation of the incident, highlighting the wider issue of violence against women (PM News Nigeria).
